Capstar is produced by Novartis Animal Health. In 1996, Novartis Animal Health was formed when two Swiss companies merged. The United States headquarters for Novartis Animal Heath is located in New Jersey.
Flea control should be used by pet owners to prevent the infestation of fleas on their pet as well as in their home. Fleas can cause numerous problems for pets including flea allergy dermatitis and tapeworms.

Capstar is an oral flea preventative available in a 2 to 25 pound dose that can be used for both cats and dogs and also a 25.1 to 125 pound dose for dogs.
Other similar products include Program and Sentinel. Program is another oral flea preventative that controls fleas; it does so by preventing the immature fleas and larvae from becoming adults.
Sentinel is an oral flea and heartworm prevention that works similar to Program. The other types of flea control available are applied to the skin and include Advantage, Frontline, Promeris and Biospot. Advantage and Biospot are used to control fleas while Frontline and Promeris are used to control fleas and ticks. Capstar is an oral flea preventative that is given once monthly. Capstar is safe to give to puppies and kittens 4 weeks and older, weighing at least 2 pounds. It is safe to use in pregnant and nursing cats and dogs. Capstar controls fleas by killing the adult flea and therefore stopping more flea eggs from being laid. It has 90% effectiveness at killing the adult fleas within 4 hours of its administration to dogs and within 6 hours of administration to cats. Capstar can be safely used along with other medications and flea preventions.
