Flea Control Product Reviews
Many flea control products exist today including Frontline, Advantage and Revolution formulas, but many pet owners may not know that there are much more effective products out there that may not cost all that much more, if they even DO. Here are some of the products we have found most effective for both cats and dogs for your comparison.
First, one of the most popular forms of flea control products are the topical treatments often found in stores such as Frontline and Advantage.
These products are available for pets of different sizes categorized by weight.
We have found Advantage to be a very effective topical product for cats and dogs, however, it seems to be much more effective for dogs than that of cats.
For cats, we recommend Revolution, over our other favorites by Advantage and Frontline as it not only takes out fleas but also forms of ear mites, hookworm, heartworm and round worm.
Not only does Revolution take care of the current flea infestation, but it also helps prevent fleas and more when applied monthly and is not mainly affected by water and shampooing.
The next method very popular among pet owners is the oral or internal application medications for dogs and cats.
The main difference between topical flea treatments and internal is simply the prevention of infestations from within. The oral treatments will not be as effective as topical medicines in the battle against the fleas on your pet.
We recommend Sentinel for dogs as a great internal flea (as well as heartworm, roundworm, hookworm and whipworm) prevention medicine.
As for cats, we recommend both Sentinel and Program. Program seems to be a much more popular choice, overall with many veterinarians and the oral version is much more recommended over the topical medications due to the possible exposure to insecticides.
If your pet has fleas or ticks now, we do recommend that is you choose any shampoo, first give Adams flea and tick a try as it has shown itself as very effective against fleas and ticks here as well as a good shampoo. Most shampoos should work, however, but we simply try to find the best and highest quality flea and tick products for our pets.
In addition, practicing more preventative measures such as the use of internal medications will also keep everyone safe from potentially harmful chemicals used throughout the house when a flea infestation does occur through the usage of sprays and more.
